ALTERNATIVE SEARCH

Find people actively asking for alternatives to SaaS tools

An alternative search is one of the clearest public demand signals: the person already knows the category and has a reason the current option is not working. The hard part is separating a real switch moment from generic comparison chatter.

WHAT COUNTS AS SIGNAL

Look for evidence, not mentions.

01

Capture the reason for switching

Price, complexity, missing workflow, poor reliability and integration gaps imply different buying criteria. The reason matters more than the competitor name itself.

02

Verify the requested replacement

Read what the person actually needs. If they need enterprise compliance and you sell a lightweight SMB tool, the keyword match is irrelevant.

03

Prioritize fresh, active questions

A current request for recommendations is more actionable than an old comparison thread or a post explaining what someone switched to months ago.

04

Keep the original source attached

A useful opportunity should always let you inspect the context yourself. Source, date and exact problem make the signal auditable instead of black-box lead generation.

05

Measure the downstream outcome

Track whether the signal led to a useful reply, source visit, signup, activation or better ICP understanding. Do not optimize for how many alternatives threads you can collect.

DON’T DO IT BY HAND.

We read the public web so you don’t have to.

The method on this page works. Running it every weekday is a job. The Daily 5 does the reading and sends you five real conversations where someone is asking for something that doesn’t exist yet — each one with its source, so you can judge it yourself.

THE DEMAND ALREADY EXISTS.

Stop guessing where the right conversations are.

Seek starts from your product and ICP, surfaces public conversations, explains why they match, and keeps the original source inspectable.
